Aston Villa still working to secure winger exit

Talks over a move have been ongoing for weeks.

Leon Bailey’s move from Villa to Hull is in the balance with no deal yet agreed between the clubs.

Hull owner Acun Ilicali had hinted their move for the winger was close to being completed following weeks of talks but negotiations have since stalled.

Bailey remained in the UK instead of travelling with Villa’s squad to the Far East in order to resolve his future, yet the latter remains uncertain.

What happens to the Jamaica international will impact on the club’s plans for the rest of the window, with Unai Emery keen to recruit another winger should he depart.

Villa have already signed Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea but Emery wants to add more attacking reinforcements.

Evann Guessand has been given the chance to impress during pre-season, while the club have also been scouting striker targets and are willing to listen to offers for Tammy Abraham, just six months after he joined on a permanent basis from Besiktas.

Strengthening at full-back is also a priority, with Villa experiencing frustration in their pursuit of AC Milan’s Pervis Estupinan.

The Italian club’s new head coach, Ruben Amorim, wants to assess the Brazilian left-back during pre-season after the clubs had been close to agreeing a deal.

Villa remain hopeful of reviving the move later this month, with Lucas Digne expected to formally complete a switch to Paris Saint-Germain when he returns from a post-World Cup break next week.

The club’s other World Cup stars, including new record signing Johan Manzambi, are due to report to Bodymoor Heath ahead of the European Super Cup clash with PSG on August 12.

Villa play the second match of their Far East tour, against Thailand side Pathum United, in Bangkok on Tuesday at 1.30pm UK time.
