Ashmore century moves Hotshots 21 points clear - snooker round-up
Karl Ashmore produced an excellent century break to propel Hotshot into a 21-point lead at the Division One summit with a 3-2 victory over third-placed Landywood in the West Midlands & Staffordshire Snooker League.
An 80-break from Luke Higginbotham was followed by a winning frame for Callum Downing to give Hotshots a 2-0 lead.
Dave Turner halved the deficit for Landywood, but Ashmore made a 107-break - his six league century - to secure victory for Hotshots, before Robbie James pulled back another frame for Landywood.
Second-placed Wednesfield saw their title hopes suffer a major dent after they fell to a third successive defeat - losing 3-2 at Baggeridge Social Club.
Joshua Walker cancelled out a victorious opening frame by David Hall to level for Wednesfield, before Dan Petch and James Hill closed out the win for Baggeridge.
Charlemont Bowling Club boosted their survival bid with a 5-0 victory over Stafford Institute B thanks to Dan Ward, Milan Krstanovic, Ricky Sadler, Chris Compton and John Spencer.
Elsewhere, Stuart Pritchard made a 55-break in Sedgley WMC's 3-2 win against Hotshots B and Poets Corner defeated Pennfields 3-2 in their relegation scrap to move out of the bottom-three.
Landywood C remain rooted in the relegation places, after a power cut prompted the cancelation of their match at Stafford Institute.
Bottom hosted top in Division Two - but it was not all straightforward for Bilston Sports and Social as they edged out Landywood F, who won frames through Nathan Wood and Adam Haycock (34). But Karl taylor, Graham Cole and Wayne Pruden did enough for table-topping Bilston.
Beaconsfield closed the gap to the league leaders to six points after defeating Poets Corner E 4-1.
The night started well for Poets as Mick Neill won the opening frame on the black, but Billy Lanham, Mike Beasley (46), Craig Crossley (45) and Callum Wraight turned the match on its head.
Old Hall moved three points clear at the top of Division Three after beating fellow promotion challengers Baggeridge Social Club B in a match that could have gone either way.
Steve Spicer and Mark Gilbert won for Baggeridge, but Nick Friend and Ben Davis responded for Old Hall to force a deciding frame, which was won by Old Hall's Craig Homer.
Three quarter-finals of the Individual Handicap were also played this week, and Sam Thompson must have been cursing his bad luck after he made breaks of 61 and 43, yet still fell to a 3-0 defeat to Mitchell Lowbridge, who made a 41 break of his own.
Elsewhere, Chris Ward recovered from the loss of the opening frame to defeat Steve Mullett 3-1 and Jamie Spence also won 3-1 after losing the opening frame against Steven Garner.
