Hednesford Town sign ex-Barnsley and MK Dons defender - who has won three EFL promotions
Hednesford Town have completed the signing of former Barnsley, MK Dons and Cambridge United defender George Williams for their promotion run-in.
The 32-year-old has previous achieved promotion with Barnsley, MK Dons and Mansfield Town in the Football League.
Williams won the League One play-offs and EFL Trophy at Barnsley in 2016 and gained automatic promotion from League Two with MK Dons in 2019.
The full-back also helped guide Mansfield Town to promotion into League One under Nigel Clough in 2023-24.
"After speaking with Kelvin and the team, it was obvious there's real ambition here and that the sky is the limit.
"The first aim has to be promotion this season, and I'm really excited to be here.
"I'm looking forward to being part of what could be a really strong end to the season."
The Pitmen are currently level on points with Northern Premier League leaders Hebburn Town, but boast a game in hand.
Director of Football Andrew Reed added: “I’m happy to get George in the building. Myself, Kelvin and the team have been looking to add in defensive areas to help with a few injuries and to make sure we finish the season strong.
"He brings experience and extra quality to an already strong squad. He’s worked with Butts before at MK Dons and trained well with the group last week, so we’re confident he’ll settle in quickly. I’m looking forward to seeing him in a Pitmen shirt.”
