Rob Edwards proud but admits to 'slight disappointment' after Wolves fight back to draw

Boss Rob Edwards admitted to slight disappointment at Wolves being unable to claim victory at Brentford after a stirring comeback from two goals down.

Wolves looked destined for defeat when Michael Kayode and Igor Thiago struck to put the Bees in control.

But Adam Armstrong scored his first Wolves goal to get the visitors back in the match, before Tolu Arokodare came off the bench to equalise with 13 minutes remaining.

Armstrong and Arokodare both hit the woodwork as Edwards’ men went in search of a winner and the boss said: “There's a tinge of disappointment.

“They're really good, Brentford, and when you're 2-0 down away from them in the Premier League, if you asked me then you'd take a point now, I probably would.

“I thought we were playing very well (in the first half). We made a couple of errors where they had opportunities, and then a couple of errors where we didn't stop the cross.

“The second goal was incredibly frustrating, really frustrating.

“But apart from that, we were playing well. And so we didn't feel that had to change too much structurally at half-time.”

Thiago also hit the post for Brentford and sent a free header wide of the target, in a first half when Wolves struggled defensively.

But they were the better team after the break and could have gone on to claim a third straight Premier League win, had Armstrong or Arokodare been able to bag their second of the night.

The draw means they are 12 points from safety with just seven matches to play but now only three points behind 19th-placed Burnley.

Wolves were applauded off by 1,700 travelling fans and Edwards said: “It's obviously a really difficult situation that we're in, but it's certainly a lot better if we're showing the fight and the quality and getting results, you know, than if we were giving up.

“And it was looking like, you know, everything was just falling apart. It's not looking like that now.

“That's why those supporters are right there at the end and everyone's on their feet applauding because they can see the lads are giving the fight.”
