Ex-West Brom and Aston Villa defender linked with Walsall managerial vacancy - reports
Liam Ridgewell is among the contenders for the managerial vacancy at Walsall following the sacking of Mat Sadler on Wednesday - according to reports.
Journalist Pete O'Rourke has claimed that the former Aston Villa, West Brom and Birmingham City defender is in the frame to replace Sadler.
Walsall parted ways with Sadler after over two-and-a-half years at the helm following a run of just two wins in 14 games in League Two.
Darren Byfield has been put in interim charge of the Saddlers and is expected to be in the dugout for their trip to local rivals Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.
Ridgewell is currently serving as assistant manager to Phil Neville at Major League Soccer outfit Portland Timbers where he has worked since January 2023.
The 41-year-old also had a previous spell as first team coach at Dover Athletic in the National League.
He started his playing career at Aston Villa in 2002 and scored seven times in 93 appearances during his five seasons at the club.
Another five-year stint at cross-city rivals Birmingham City followed, as he made 175 appearances and scored 11 goals.
Ridgewell lifted the League Cup with the Blues in 2011 and went on to score twice in 78 games during two-and-a-half seasons at Albion.
