Snooker round-up: Pennfields boost survival hopes with crucial victory

Pennfields moved out of the relegation zone in Division One after registering a crucial 3-2 victory over Charlemont Bowling Club in the Stafford & West Midlands Snooker.

Jim Woodhouse, Jason Hickman and Simon Thomas propelled Pennfields into a 3-0 lead, before Milan Krstanovic and John Spencer brought a degree of respectability to the score-line with two consolations for Charlemont. 

Poets Corner dropped into the bottom three following a 4-1 defeat at Sedgley Ex Service who eased to victory thanks to Simon Hickman, Toby Smith, Ash Barker and Andrew Highfield. 

Landywood C boosted their survival prospect with a much-needed 4-1 success over Baggeridge Social Club. 

Jamie Spence won the opening frame for Baggeridge, but Karl Payne, Adrian Woods, Kevin Richards and Chris Shwalbe eventually helped Landywood ease to victory.

Stafford Institute A inflicted a 4-1 defeat upon their B team to leave them rock bottom in Division One. 

The B team took the lead through Stuart Jones, before Chris Ward, Mark Billingsley, Robert Wharne and Matt Hyden propelled the A team to a comfortable win.

Hotshots A moved a commanding 19 points clear at the top of Division One after romping to a 4-1 demolition of Sedgley WMC. 

Luke Higginbotham, Faizan Mohammed, Callum Downing and Karl Ashmore sealed the deal for Hotshots, before Richard Davies prevented a whitewash for Sedgley by winning final frame. 

Bilston Sports and Social Club extended their lead at the Division Two summit to seven points with a 4-1 victory over Woodfield Sports and Social Club. 

Second-placed Beaconsfield fell to a 3-2 loss at Charlemont Bowling Club B, and Bilston Sports took full advantage courtesy of winning frames for Karl Taylor, Wayne Pruden, Steven Giles and Stewart Humphries.

Bilston Bowling Club remain in third-place thanks to a 4-1 win at Poets Corner E courtesy of Jodi Humphreys, Wayne Bentley, Tom Hurst and Ashley Walsall. 

Elsewhere, Essington WMC suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands of relegation rivals Poets Corner D and Landywood E came from 2-0 down to beat Poets Corner B 3-2. 

In Division Three, Bilston leapfrogged Wolverhampton Electric into third-place after winning their top-of-the-table tussle 3-2. 

Baggeridge Social Club B boosted their promotion chances with a 4-1 win over Wednesfield Cons thanks to Wayne Cooper, Alan Nelson, Dave Rollinson and Mark Gilbert. 

Old Hall B boast a nine-point lead at the top of Division Four and could secure promotion as early as next week following a 3-2 win at Pelsall Social Club. 

Forty Four C sit four points clear at the Division Five summit after easing to an emphatic 5-0 demolition of club rivals Forty Four A. 

In the Under-25 Handicap, Bobbie Wilson beat Alex Raybould 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals where he will be joined by Joshua Walker, Lucas Walker and Riley Walker. 

In the quarter-finals of the Consolation Cup, Charlemont Bowling Club beat Darlaston Cons 393-315 and Woodfield B emerged 423-419 victors over Codsall Firs. 

Robert Wharne beat Raj Bashal 4-2 in the Six Red Handicap quarter-final, while Simon Hickman and Adam Stones reached the semi-finals in the Individual Plate with 4-0 whitewash victories. 

Meanwhile, Bridgnorth won 4-3 at Wolverhampton in the Inter Town Plate semi-finals.
