Aston Villa star set for scan amid injury concern

Villa are sweating on the fitness of Matty Cash after the right-back sustained a calf injury in Wednesday’s defeat to Chelsea.

The Poland international will undergo a scan on Thursday, having been substituted at half-time during the 4-1 defeat.

Cash, one of Villa’s best performers this season, had recently returned from two weeks’ out with a knee problem.

“We will check him tomorrow. He will have a scan. Hopefully it is not a lot,” said Villa boss Unai Emery.

“He had some doubts about his calf”.

Cash has started all but two of Villa’s Premier League matches this season, missing December’s 4-1 defeat at Arsenal through suspension and then last month’s win over Brighton with the knee issue.

Villa now have a weekend off due to their early exit from the FA Cup and are back in action when they travel to Lille for the first leg of a Europa League last-16 tie next Thursday.
