West Brom make head coach decision as promotion-winner recruited
James Morrison has vowed to "give everything" to help Albion beat the drop after it was confirmed he will remain in charge for the rest of the season.
The 39-year-old club hero has been tasked with hauling the Baggies to safety as they battle against relegation from the Championship.
Morrison took charge of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Oxford after Eric Ramsay, the club’s second permanent boss of the season, was sacked last week.
He will remain in charge for the final 11 matches as Albion look to avoid demotion to League One.
Morrison has added Russell Martin’s former assistant, Matt Gill, to his backroom team.
Gill was with Martin when they won promotion to the Premier League with Southampton in 2024. He also worked with him at MK Dons, Swansea and most recently at Rangers.
Morrison said: “I’m delighted to welcome Matt to the Albion, as we prepare for the challenge of keeping the club in the Championship.
“Matt is a first-class coach with an outstanding character, and I am convinced he will help us turn the tide on what has obviously been an incredibly poor season to date.”

Albion sit just a place and a point above the relegation zone, having failed to win any of their last 11 Championship matches.
Ramsay, who replaced Ryan Mason in January, was sacked just 44 days into his reign after failing to win any of the nine games of which he took charge.
The Baggies travel to Sheffield United on Saturday and Morrison said: “Together we must rebuild confidence in the players on the training pitch, so we are equipped to deliver under pressure in matches.
“After a period of poor results, it can take time to return to the level of performance required to win games in this division – but I remain confident that one result will help bring another.
"It will not be easy and we’re going to have to work hard to get to that level.
“I completely appreciate it can’t have been easy being a fan this season – and I’m not going to ask them to do anything.
"This is about us showing the fight and desire expected of a West Bromwich Albion team. Our fans will respond to that as they always do, with wholehearted, passionate support, that raises the roof of wherever we’re playing.
“I’m completely committed to getting us over the line, and I know from experience that when this club comes together in moments of adversity, it can achieve anything.”
