Wolves Women extend their winning run to close the gap at the top
Wolves Women have closed the gap at the top of the National Northern Premier to a point after extending their stunning winning run.
They have racked up 13 straight league wins - stretching all the way back to mid-August when they drew their only game of the campaign, against current leaders Burnley.
And though the Clarets are a point clear of Wolves at the summit, it is Dan McNamara's side who hold a game in hand. The top two also meet in just under a fortnight's time on March 15.
Middlesbrough were Wolves' latest victims, with two first-half goals putting the visitors on the road to a 3-0 triumph.
A Beth Roberts cross was inadvertently diverted into the Boro net by a defender before Louanne Worsey headed in a second soon after when Tammi George flicked on Abbi Jenner's corner.
And the result was sealed four minutes from time when George was played in by Amber Hughes to score her first goal since returning to the club.
At the other end of the pitch, Wolves have now gone three months without conceding a league goal as they kept another clean sheet.
Elsewhere in the division, Albion slipped to a 3-0 defeat at Stoke City to remain six points above the relegation zone, while Sporting Khalsa remain at the foot of the table after going down 5-0 at Liverpool Feds.
In the West Midlands League Premier Division, Hednesford Town edged out Redditch Borough 1-0 thanks to Maisy Sinclair's winner five minutes from time.
Courtney Dilger and Skye Lakin-Wright fired Lichfield City a huge step closer to the West Midlands One North title with a 2-0 victory against second-placed Walsall.
Chasetown are in third after an 8-0 thrashing of rock-bottom Whitchurch Alport, with seven different goalscorers.
Karen Harrigan-Clough bagged a brace, with Katie Thornhill, Ieila Warner, Chloe East-Goodman, Lydia Cope, Ellesse Birkett and Caitlin Dodds also on target.
And in West Midlands One South, Halesowen Town lost 8-3 at home to Hereford.
