Preview: Play-off chasing Dudley Town facing quickfire double-header
Boss Matty Lovatt admits this weekend is all about managing his Dudley Town squad as they prepare for two matches in barely 48 hours.
The play-off chasing Robins host Winsford United on Saturday afternoon, before travelling to Studley on Monday night.
Dudley sit ninth in the Midland Premier Division table, five points behind the top-five with 10 matches to play.
Lovatt, who was able to give several fringe players valuable minutes in Tuesday’s 8-0 JW Hunt Cup win over Old Wulfrunians, knows he needs everyone to contribute.
“Saturday is going to be a tough, tough game against Winsford,” he said.
“It’s important we do our best to try and kick on and grab any points we can, it is so tight around the play-off places.
“Then it is a case of managing the squad to face Studley on Monday which is so difficult with the quick turnaround. But we are looking forward to these two games.”
Lye Town, a place and two points above Dudley in the table, will be aiming to boost their own play-off hopes when they make the short trip to Tividale.
Fifth-placed AFC Wolverhampton City, meanwhile, are targeting a win which will help fend off the chasing pack when they host second-placed Hanley Town.
The biggest match of the weekend takes place in Division One, where Gornal Athletic host title rivals Knowle in a top-of-the table clash.
Gornal have a four-point lead at the top, having played two games more.
“Both clubs have done extremely well and should be proud,” said Peacocks boss Stuart How. “Hopefully we can give the crowd a match to showcase this level of football.”
Elsewhere, Cradley Town host Ingles, while Wednesfield Community are at home to AFC North Kilworth.
In the North West Counties League, Stafford Town host Market Drayton, with Wolverhampton Casuals travelling to Foley Meir and Eccleshall going to Ashworth.
