Key man admits Aston Villa are feeling the pressure after Wolves derby defeat

Morgan Rogers admitted the pressure is weighing on Villa after their Champions League hopes were dented by derby defeat at Wolves.

Villa became just the second team to lose to Wolves in the Premier League this season after second half goals from Joao and Rodrigo Gomes earned the hosts a deserved win.

The visitors remain third in the league but could be overtaken if Manchester United beat Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Villa have won just three of their last nine matches and have failed to score in four of those.

Asked if the team were beginning to feel the pressure, Rogers replied: "It does weigh on us but it shouldn't. We deserve to be here and we should not forget that.

“Our run lately has not been as good as usual but that is the battle of the Premier League. We are going to get back to our good run of wins."

Villa face Chelsea and United in their next two top flight fixtures and Rogers said: "They are the games you want to play and with so much on the line, we need to show why we deserve to be where we are.

“We set our standards high and we have the ability to win every game. Obviously that is not realistic but we are playing good football as a whole and there is nothing to worry about."

Villa were the more threatening team in the first half but faded badly in the second, with Joao Gomes firing Wolves ahead just past the hour mark.

Rodrigo Gomes then made the game safe for the hosts with virtually the last kick, after Amadou Onana had seen an effort cleared off the line.

"It’s disappointing,” said Rogers. “We didn't do anywhere near enough to create chances and score goals.

“We controlled the game in parts, it was not all doom and gloom. But we did not create enough chances."
