The 38-year-old from Stourbridge hit too hard for Brad Donovan at the O2 Arena and then fought back tears as he remembered his father, Pete.

He died less than three days before the fight and Ashton said: “Dad never let me back out of a fight since I was five years old.

“Him and mum split up when I was six years old and he raised me and my five sisters by himself. He made sacrifices so we had love.”

Ashton says he’s hoping to fight in Wolverhampton after blasting out Donovan with a volley of right-hand wallops.

Promoters BKB sold out The Hangar last year and Ashton said: “I don’t think I will win a world title, but if I can get on a big show in Wolverhampton that would be my Olympic final.

“I could have 300 people there.”
