Aston Villa boss Unai Emery: Wolves deserve more Premier League points
Unai Emery says Villa’s players need no warning of the challenge they will face at Wolves in Friday night’s derby.
Villa visit Molineux to face the Premier League’s bottom club, targeting a win which would give them a nine-point cushion in the race for Champions League football.
But the boss knows they are in for a tough test, after scraping past their rivals 1-0 in November’s reverse fixture at Villa Park.
Wolves still need two points to avoid becoming the Premier League’s worst-ever team but Emery believes their performances have been deserving of more.
He said: “We can remember the match we played here. We didn't deserve to win and they performed fantastically.
“They lost some (other) matches they didn't deserve. Last week against Palace away they lost in the last minute with one player less.
“They played fantastic game, they deserved even more.
“Everything we are analysing of them, makes us know it's not an easy match.
“It's a derby and we can't forget it's a derby, they are playing at home with their supporters and they will feel it's a necessary match to show their capacity against us.”
Villa have won just one of their last eight visits to Molineux, with Emery still seeking his first win at the venue.
The Spaniard was even beaten 3-1 while in charge of Arsenal in 2019 and does not believe he needs to warn his players against complacency.
“They don't need it, they know how much we will play tomorrow, what a difficult match we will play tomorrow.
“Seven or eight years ago, I played here and I was 3-0 down in 30 minutes. I didn't achieve a good result playing four times there. It is going to be difficult, so difficult.”
