Women's football: Pressure mounts after Aston Villa concede SEVEN in fourth straight WSL defeat
An honest Natalia Arroyo conceded results are "not speaking nicely" about her work after Villa conceded SEVEN at home to Tottenham.
Villa’s rotten start to 2026 hit a new low as they were thrashed 7-3 to lose for the fourth straight Women’s Super League fixture.
Arroyo, appointed 13 months ago, faced questions about her position after the match.
She said: "It's not something I can answer. I will give all my energy, all my knowledge and all the work I can bring to the club, like I have from day one.
"I think we are building something bigger than the now moment. We are going through a difficult process in terms of squad availability.
"I feel supported by the club but I will be judged by results and the results are not talking nicely about my work.
"So let's see. Whatever is to happen has to help players and the club, it will happen for them."
Signe Gaupset fired the visitors in front after just 10 minutes and though Kirsty Hanson hit back quickly for Villa, goals for Beth England and Olivia Holdt allowed Tottenham to take charge before the break.
A deflected strike from Oriane Jean-Francois gave the home side hope midway through the second half but just 12 seconds after the restart Cathinka Tandberg restored the two-goal cushion.
Maika Hamano then killed the game as a contest and though Hanson pulled one back, with her second of the game, further goals from Tandberg and Julie Blakstad turned it into a rout.
Villa have now conceded 25 goals in their last six WSL matches.
Arroyo said: “I’m proud of some of the positives, the ability to score three goals against Tottenham says a lot. I think we created some good chances.
“We cannot just let teams score almost all of the chances we can. So let’s see if we can close our house, defend better and from there we can build.”
Albion and Wolves suffered frustration as their Birmingham Challenge Cup semi-final was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Alexander Stadium. The same fate befell Stourbridge’s home match with Peterborough in the National League Midlands Division.
Lye Town took advantage of title rivals Redditch United being in cup action by going top of the West Midlands League, courtesy of a 2-0 win at Hednesford.
Brit Lote was on the mark for Lye, who are two points clear at the top, having played a game more.
Redditch’s match was off due to their involvement in the Women’s Challenge Vase semi-finals but their run came to an end as they were beaten 3-2 by Walsall.
Mia Fellows was the hero for the Saddlers women, scoring the winning goal five minutes from time.
Molly Cook twice had Walsall ahead but saw both goals cancelled out by Ellie Williams.
The latter then missed a golden chance to put Redditch in front but it was Fellows who won the day for Walsall.
Having twice gone close in the minutes before, she finished off a neat team move from close range.
In Division One North, Chasetown gave leaders Lichfield City a run for their money before losing out 6-4 in a thriller.
