Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira as their new head coach.

The 57-year-old has become Forest’s fourth permanent boss of the season after agreeing an 18-month deal at the City Ground.

Pereira replaces Sean Dyche, who was sacked last week after a 0-0 draw with Wolves left Forest just three points above the Premier League relegation zone.

Their owner, Evangelos Marinakis, is hoping the Portuguese can replicate the success he enjoyed with Wolves last season.

Taking charge when they sat rooted in the relegation zone, he guided them to safety with several matches to spare.

Yet things turned sour following a disastrous summer transfer window, with Pereira sacked in November after Wolves claimed just two points from their first 10 Premier League games.

Pereira, who is embarking on his 15th job in football management, will be joined at the City Ground by assistants Filipe Jorge Monteiro Almeida and Luis Miguel Moreira Da Silva, along with head of performance Bruno Filipe Araujo De Moura and analyst Pedro Simao Capela Silva Lopes.

Forest, who finished seventh last season and qualified for the Europa League, sacked Nuno Espirito Santo just three matches into the season.

He was replaced by Ange Postecglou, who lasted just 39 days in charge before being axed and replaced by Dyche.

Pereira’s first match in charge will be away at Fenerbahce in the Europa League play-off round.
