West Brom relegation rival turn to international manager in joint role to aid fight for Championship survival
Two former Albion managers were linked with the vacant position at strugglers Blackburn Rovers.
But now it looks as if they have landed their new man.
Valerien Ismael's sacking at Blackburn, who are in a fight for survival with Albion - has led to a host of bosses being linked with a move to Ewood Park.
It emerged last week that Gary Rowett was in talks with Rovers - but he was in attendance at Albion's clash with Birmingham City on Tuesday as it emerged he had walked away from discussions.
Now it has emerged that they are turning their attentions to a manager on the international stage - as they are set to appoint Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill.
The former Stoke boss, who is busy preparing for a World Cup play-off semi-final match with the country - is to take a joint role until the end of the season.
The 56-year-old is expected to be involved for both matches and, if Northern Ireland qualify against the odds, for the World Cup finals.
He could then take the Blackburn job on a permanent basis.
According to reports, if a deal is agreed with the Irish FA, O'Neill could be in charge for their big clash with QPR on Saturday.
It is not the first time this has happened - with O'Neill doing the same role during his first spell as Northern Ireland boss when he was in charge at Stoke.
