Riley Parsons wins the Shootout with a series of big breaks
Riley Parsons has won the first silverware of the season in the Staffordshire & West Midlands Snooker League.
Parsons triumphed in the Shootout competition, which is played under shot clock rules, dominating the competition with seven of the top 10 breaks.
He recorded runs of 56 and 39 in defeating Andy Flaherty in the final, 70 in the semi-final and 76 and 67 in his last-16 match.
Bobbie Wilson knocked in the tournament's highest break with a fine of effort of 88, while special mentions go to Ben Davies and Graham Cole, who had breaks of 58 and 57 respectively.
West Midlands Individual Championship
Meanwhile, the West Midlands Individual Championship has reached the quarter-finals and the highlight of the round saw Daniel Ward knock in a stunning 123 break on his way to a 4-3 victory over Paul Lloyd (62 break).
Elsewhere, Karl Ashmore made a 60 break but it led to the only frame he won as he lost 4-1 to Callum Downing, who made a 51 break of his own.
Jamie Brown made breaks of 48 and 44 in defeating Mitchell Lowbridge 4-0, while Paul Deaville also made it through to the semi-finals in a whitewash victory over Tom Maxfield.
Division One
Hotshots extended their lead at the top of Staffs & West Midlands Snooker League Division One to seven points after a 4-1 win at relegation-threatened Charlemont Bowling Club.
Faizan Mohammed and Paul Deaville made breaks of 51 and 36 respectively to put Hotshots 2-0 up, Chris Compton pulled one back for Charlemont before most wins man Callum Downing sealed the match for Hotshots.
Jamie Brown knocked the highest break of the match - 66 - as it finished 4-1.
Wednesfield Cons remained in second place after a 3-2 defeat at Sedgley WMC, where the first two frames were shared as Richard Davies won for Sedgley and Joshua Walker replied for Wednesfield.
Oliver Spooner continued his recent good form as he made a 65 break to put Wednesfield 2-1 up, but Andy Cambridge levelled the match for Sedgley, winning the next frame on the black after a 62 break to force a decider, which Sedgley won after Rhys Lampitt's 49 break.
Riley Parsons continued his good form after his victory in the Shootout as he made the highest break in Division One this week. His break of 68 accounted for the opening frame as Landywood B went one up against Pennfields.
Adrian Rosa and Bal Sembi made breaks of 57 and 34 respectively to put Landywood B 3-0 up and it was soon 4-0 as Tom Burgess won the next frame. Colin Reade made sure the whitewash was averted as he won the final frame.
Karl Payne made a 56 break to win the opening frame for Landywood C as they continued to fight against dropping to Division Two, but wins for Steve Powell and Nick Browne put Shifnal War Memorial B 2-1 up, and the match was decided in the next frame as Ade Henry won it on the black.
Adrian Woods took a consolation frame for Landywood C.
Bottom side Stafford Institute B went 2-0 up at Hotshots B after wins from Steven Smart and Stuart Jones, but Hotshots B fought back to win through Hasib Hussain, Roy Stokes and Hasan Hussain.
In other top-flight matches, James Hill made a 47 break as Baggeridge Social Club beat Sedgley Ex Service 4-1, Poets Corner defeated Shifnal War Memorial 3-2 and Landywood Snooker Club enjoyed a 3-2 victory at Stafford Institute.
