Blackburn Rovers received a big boost on Tuesday night - as Albion slid further into the mire.

Blackburn Rovers victory over Sheffield Wednesday saw them overtake Albion - with the Baggies sliding into the relegation zone for the first time this season.

They are now in the drop zone on goal difference as the season continues to go from bad to worse.

Rovers are without a manager as they suffer an equally dreadful season - but they may soon be making an appointment as they look to climb the table and get out of trouble.

Former Baggies boss Tony Mowbray was linked with a move back to Ewood Park but that talk was quickly off the table.

And it has emerged that Rovers are keen on Slaven Bilic, who won promotion with Albion back in 2020.

But now it seems they could be set to turn to a manager who is in work - and has featured in the Championship previously.

According to reports, Reading boss Leam Richardson, who was previously in charge at Wigan, has emerged as the leading contender.

Blackburn are yet to make a move but it would reportedly cost the club £400,000 in compensation.
