Unai Emery finds Aston Villa positive in Tammy Abraham debut
Unai Emery is confident Tammy Abraham will prove the ideal fit for Villa after taking encouragement from the striker’s debut performance.
Abraham and Villa’s afternoon ended in disappointment after he had a goal controversially ruled out by VAR in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Brentford.
But Emery saw enough to convince him the £18.2million signing from Besiktas will prove a success.
“He scored one goal, though it was not,” said the Villa boss. “He worked in the structure we are building and had chances.
“When we analyse this match, we will try to get some improvements in his adaptation with us.”
Abraham was thrown straight into his first Premier League match since 2021 after Ollie Watkins was ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Watkins will be checked over when Villa’s squad returns to training at Bodymoor Heath on Wednesday.
Emery’s men travel to Bournemouth on Saturday targeting a seventh Premier League away win of the season.
Full-back Kosta Nedeljkovic, meanwhile, remains on loan at RB Salzburg after seeing a proposed deadline day move to Fiorentina collapse.
The 20-year-old Serbia international had been set to spend the rest of the season in Serie A but paperwork issues meant the deal could not be processed in time.
