Non-league round-up: Harriers boss happy to witness 'World War Three' after unbeaten run ends

Stunned boss Adam Murray was happy to witness “World War Three” break out after Kidderminster Harriers’ 12-match unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt at Macclesfield.

Harriers were thumped 5-1 in Cheshire as they lost for the first time since November and Murray suggested there had been “a few punches flying” in the dressing room post-match.

And the boss took no issue with his players letting off steam.

“I’ve not said a word to the players after the game,” he said. “I’ll be honest, I think there are a few punches flying in there at the minute.

“People aren’t happy and they are holding each other accountable and that’s what winning teams look like.

“Today hurts everyone and that is why it is like World War Three in the dressing room at the minute. That is what has to happen. That is what happens with winners.

“Out of it, they will get stronger. This could be the making of this team. So I hope they are having a good time of it down there.”

Harriers were 3-0 down at the break and though Joe Foulkes pulled one back early in the second half, it proved minor consolation as the home side scored twice more to complete the rout.

“All we can do as a group is apologise. We were way off it,” said Murray. “That is what happens when you go off-script.

“We have gone 12 matches unbeaten by sticking to the plan. I didn’t expect it. I am in a little bit of shock if I am honest with you.”

Rushall Olympic also endured a tough night as a 3-0 defeat at Warrington Rylands left them looking nervously over their shoulders in the Northern Premier League.

Jake Burton scored a hat-trick for the hosts to keep the Pics just two points above the relegation zone.

In the West Division, Stafford Rangers boosted their survival hopes by winning for the first time since October.

Second half goals from Matt Hearsey, Ben O’Hanlon and Jack Birch earned the Boro a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Darlaston Town.

Victory saw them jump above the visitors on goal difference and also level on points with Sporting Khalsa, who were beaten 3-1 at home by Newcastle Town.

“I’m made up for everyone,” said Stafford boss Graham Deakin. “We won’t be getting carried away but we are very pleased.”

Elsewhere, Chasetown lost ground in the play-off race after losing 1-0 at Runcorn Linnets.
