Huge blow for West Brom with forward facing three months out
Albion have been dealt a major blow after it emerged Karlan Grant could miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
The 28-year-old attacker is due to undergo surgery in the next few days and is expected to miss up to three months.
Albion remain hopeful Grant, who sustained the injury early in last week’s 1-1 draw at Derby, will recover quickly and return for the final matches of the Championship campaign.
But his lengthy absence is undoubtedly a major setback for the Baggies as they look to pull clear from relegation danger.
Grant had scored three goals in 24 appearances this season and been among the brighter performers in recent months for a struggling Albion team.
The former Charlton academy player is in the final six months of a six-year contract signed upon joining the Baggies from Huddersfield in a £15million deal in 2020. Depending on the speed of his recovery, it is possible he has now played his final match for the club.
Albion, who sit 20th in the table after failing to win any of their last five matches, face one of their biggest games of the season to date when they visit 21st-placed Portsmouth on Saturday.
The Baggies are close to agreeing a loan deal for Crystal Palace wing-back Danny Imray and also want to recruit a central midfielder before next week's transfer deadline.
