Former Wolves favourite appointed assistant head coach at EFL club
Former Wolves favourite and Express & Star columnist Dave Edwards has taken his first steps into coaching.
The 39-year-old ex-Wales international has been appointed as joint assistant head coach at Shrewsbury Town, where he will work under In The Stiffs podcast partner - and new Salop head coach - Gavin Cowan.
Jamie Haynes, Cowan's long-term number two, will work alongside Edwards as joint assistant head coach - with the new management team looking to guide Shrewsbury Town away from trouble at the bottom of League Two.
A 1-0 defeat at Cambridge United on Tuesday proved to be the last game in charge for former West Brom player and coach Michael Appleton, with Shrews left hovering just two points and two places above the drop zone.
Edwards joined Wolves from Shrewsbury in January 2007 and went on to make more than 300 appearances for the club across a decade of service, winning promotion to the Premier League in 2009 and then again from League One in 2014.
He eventually left Wolves for Reading in the summer of 2017 before rejoining hometown club Shrewsbury as a player and then ending his career at Bala Town in the Cymru Premier.
Edwards has been a presence in the media, working for a number of broadcasters, as well as writing his weekly column for the Express & Star and presenting the In The Stiffs podcast with Cowan and another former Shrewsbury favourite, Sam Aiston.
