Villa boss Unai Emery has confirmed Youri Tielemans could be missing until April with an ankle injury.

The Belgium international became the latest player to suffer injury in Sunday’s 2-0 win at Newcastle.

Villa have already lost Boubacar Kamara for the season, while John McGinn will miss up to two months with a knee injury.

Emery confirmed Villa are close to signing Douglas Luiz on loan from Juventus, while Ross Barkley is due to return to full training later this week.

Right-back Andres Garcia, however, has been ruled out for around three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Emery said: “We know about McGinn, Tielemans and Kamara. Kamara is a long time, not playing again this season.

“McGinn is six to eight weeks out. Tielemans is eight to 10 weeks out. After those updates on those players, we need to manage central midfielders in the matches we are going to play.

“We are involving Douglas Luiz for this season. Hopefully, we can keep him consistently this season.

“Ross Barkley is so close to joining us again. George Hemmings is a young player, knowing tactically what we need. He has huge potential, and maybe this is a moment he can help us.”

Villa are back in action on Thursday when they host RB Salzburg in the Europa League.

New signing Tammy Abraham is not eligible to play until the knockout stages of the competition.
