Step 5/6 round-up: Dudley Town boost play-off chances with important win

Dudley Town moved to within a point of the Midland Premier Division play-offs after beating promotion rivals AFC Wolverhampton City 2-1 at the Guardian Warehousing Arena.

Matthew Funge and Kyle Moseley fired Dudley into a 2-0 lead inside 39 minutes and Jay Holdcroft halved the deficit for AFC Wolverhampton. 

AFC Wolverhampton still occupy a promotion place in fourth spot, and sit one point ahead of Dudley, who boast a game in hand.

Brocton made it eight wins in nine games after coming from behind to beat Whitchurch Alport 3-1 at home. 

Ollie Holden fired Alport into a seventh-minute lead, before Morgan Payne equalised from a rebounded shot from Jake Thomas on the cusp of half-time. 

Christian Blanchette was on hand to force the ball over the line following a goalmouth scramble, as Brocton took the lead 12 minutes after the restart. 

Regan Smith put the seal on the win for Brocton when he converted from the spot after Charlie Kin was bundled over inside the box by George Carpenter.

Lye Town registered their third win in four games after emerging 3-1 victors over Uttoxeter Town thanks to goals from Matthew Saunders, Tyler Smith and Callum McKenna.

Elsewhere, Jason Ukata scored the only goal for Stone Old Alleynians in a 1-0 win at Tividale while Stourport Swifts were comfortably beaten 3-0 at home to Northwich Victoria. 

Harry Dixon scored for Bilston Town but it merely proved a consolation as they were beaten 2-1 by Midland Division One leaders Knowle. 

Second-place Gornal Athletic remain seven points adrift with a game in hand after Taylor Homer scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at AFC North Kilworth.

Birmingham OJM only trail the play-off places on goal difference after goals from Leslie Omorodion and Isaac Phillips secured a 2-0 win over Sutton United.

Fletcher Marsh and substitute Cole Wells were on the score sheet in Cradley Town's 2-1 win against AFC Bridgnorth to send them to within one-point of safety.

Wednesfield sit just a point above the relegation zone as Cain Beckett's deflected shot saw them condemned to a 1-0 defeat at Birstall United. 

Meanwhile, Smethwick Rangers suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Kirby Muxloe courtesy of goals from Matty Longdon, Joel Oliveira and Kai O'Keefe. 

In the North West Counties Division One South, play-off contenders Stafford Town fell to a 2-1 home defeat against New Mills.

Saul Henderson and Maysan Benarbia netted for the visitors before Patryk Mazurkiewicz scored the only goal for Stafford.

Rock bottom Wolverhampton Sporting lost 3-0 at Shawbury United courtesy of Eric Mensah's double and a solitary strike from Kyle Cassell. 

Eccleshall and Wolverhampton Casuals saw their home fixtures against Alsager Town and Barnton respectively postponed due to the weather.
