'Trust me - we do care': Chris Mepham outlines West Brom 'fight' and dedicates late Derby leveller to travelling fans
Albion's goalscoring hero Chris Mepham insists he and his Albion team mates do care amid their fight for Championship survival - and he dedicated his late strike to the travelling fans.
The Baggies were on the cusp of an eleventh straight league defeat on the road - which would have broken a club record set back in the 1890s.
But defender Mepham came off the bench, having been dropped by manager Eric Ramsay, to rescue a late point. It stopped the rot and hands Ramsay his first point in charge of Albion.
And Mepham insists that the players are fighting and do care. And he said that the goal was for the supporters - and explained how big of a part they can play in Albion's fight for survival.
He said: "I didn't even know if it had gone in to be honest. I was just praying at the time and then I saw the ref give it and look at his watch.
"It was nice to be on the right end of that.
"This is 100 per cent for them (the fans). I was on the sideline and you could feel the energy from the away end.
"From now until the end of the season we are going to need that.
"We know as a group of players that ultimately it has been a tough watch for them at times this season, as a group we know we have not been good enough.
"Trust me, as players we fight and we care and we know they do too so hopefully we can bounce from this."
