Aston Villa star thanks supporters while confirming worst-case injury fears

Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara has confirmed he is out for the season after undergoing knee surgery.

The 26-year-old underwent an operation in Lyon on Thursday after injuring his knee in the FA Cup win at Tottenham earlier this month.

Villa had initially stated Kamara would only miss between two to three weeks but the problem turned out to be worse than first feared.

Kamara posted a message on social media on Friday evening thanking supporters for their well wishes over the past fortnight.

He wrote: “Just a quick message to thank you all for the support since I left the pitch.

“It’s been difficult to accept it, especially with the team’s results, my recent form and what’s coming up in the next months.

“Good luck to the lads until the end of the season, keep pushing.”

Kamara’s injury is a considerable blow to Villa and their manager Unai Emery, with the France international having been a mainstay of the team which currently sits third in the Premier League.

Villa, who are close to signing striker Tammy Abraham from Besiktas, will consider adding another midfielder before the end of the transfer window, with AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek among their targets.

Emery, meanwhile, faces an anxious wait to discover the extent of the knee injury captain John McGinn suffered in last weekend’s defeat to Everton.

McGinn is still consulting with doctors and Emery said on Friday: “We’ll know his assessment in a few days.”
