Birmingham Phoenix have bolstered their batting line-up with the signing of big-hitting South African Donovan Ferreira.

The 27-year-old right-hander was part of the Oval Invincibles which won the last two editions of The Hundred, underlining his reputation as a powerful middle order batter by hitting 18 of the 77 deliveries he faced in the 2025 tournament for six.

Ferreira also keeps wicket and is the latest notable addition to a Phoenix team who have already secured the services of Jacob Bethell, Rehan Ahmed and Mitch Owen.

“The Hundred is a unique and highly competitive competition, and the chance to play for the Birmingham Phoenix is a fantastic opportunity,” he said.

“I’ve tasted success in the last two years in the Hundred and I would love to win it three years in a row, so hopefully I can contribute to a strong season for the Phoenix.”

Ferreira’s ability to clear the boundary in the latter stages of an innings has made him among the most feared finishers in the game.

His arrival continues a winter of change for the Phoenix, which began with the appointment of former New Zealand seamer Shane Bond as the new men’s head coach.

Bond said: “Donovan is exactly the kind of player who can make a huge impact in this format.

“He brings real power and versatility, and his ability to finish innings is among the best in the game. We’re delighted to welcome him to Phoenix and believe he’ll be a major asset to our campaign.”
