Aston Villa dealt huge blow as true extent of star's injury emerges
Villa have been dealt a huge blow with midfielder Boubacar Kamara expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The 26-year-old suffered the injury early in Villa’s FA Cup third round win at Tottenham earlier this month.
Villa originally stated Kamara would only miss between two to three weeks but that message was later contradicted by boss Unai Emery, who suggested a longer absence was possible.
Further tests carried out over the weekend have now confirmed the severity with Emery now set to miss one of his most important players for the rest of the campaign.
Kamara has been a mainstay of Villa’s team since joining in 2022 and a key component in Emery’s set-up, providing control in the middle of the park.
The France international has, however, proven susceptible to injury, missing eight months in 2024 with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Villa may now enter the transfer market to get a replacement for Kamara before the end of the transfer window, with Emery also waiting to learn how long captain John McGinn will miss with his own knee injury.
McGinn was forced off early in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Everton and is still be assessed.
The club last week missed out on signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, with the England international instead moving to Tottenham.
Villa, who last week allowed forward Donyell Malen to leave for Roma, are attempting to move forward with a deal to sign Tammy Abraham to bolster their attacking options. The striker is currently on loan at Besiktas from Roma.
