The 28-year-old from Oldbury will take part in the Nevis to St Kitts cross channel swim in March, a two-and-a-half mile event which attracts both professional and amateur athletes from around the world.

Dearing, who retired from professional swimming in 2024, made history as the first black woman to swim for Great Britain at an Olympics when she competed in the marathon swimming at Tokyo 2020.

The former national champion remains a powerful advocate for diversity in swimming and open water sport and is a co-founder of the Black Swimming Association, which tackles inequalities in access to water safety and lifesaving skills.

“I love swims that feel like a real journey and it doesn’t get more special than crossing between two islands in a place as beautiful as Nevis and St Kitts,” said Dearing.

“Warm water, incredible scenery and that sense of adventure are what open water swimming is all about. This is a bucket list swim for so many people and I’m really excited to be part of it.”
