Villa have been boosted by the news Boubacar Kamara is only expected to miss a few weeks with the knee injury sustained in Saturday’s FA Cup win at Tottenham.

Boss Unai Emery had feared the midfielder was set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he was forced off inside the opening minutes following a hefty challenge by Spurs’ Joao Palhinha.

But while the 26-year-old is still being tested, initial scans show he has avoided serious injury and is likely to only be absent for between two to three weeks.

While that will put pressure on a Villa midfield already missing Amadou Onana and Ross Barkley, the prognosis will still come as a huge relief to Emery.

Kamara, who signed a new contract last summer, has been among Villa’s best players during a run of 19 wins from 23 matches which has put them into the Premier League title race.

The France international, who joined Villa on a free transfer after leaving Marseille in 2022, previously spent eight months out in 2024 after injuring knee ligaments.

With Onana still several weeks away from returning to fitness, Kamara's short-term absence will see Emery turn to youngster Lamara Bogarde, though Villa are also working to bolster their midfield options with the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

Talks over an initial loan deal for the England international, which would include an option to buy, are advancing.
