Matej Jurasek opened the scoring after quarter of an hour, before Makama doubled their lead just nine minutes later.

Makama delivered two composed finishes early in the second half to add salt into gaping Saddlers' wounds, although Courtney Clarke pulled a goal back with a stunning strike from distance.

Substitute Tony Springett added a fifth for the hosts in stoppage time when he steered his finish past Roberts and in off the post.

That ended the Saddlers' run in the FA Cup and extended their losing streak to three games in all competitions.

Mat Sadler made four changes from the Saddlers' 2-0 defeat at Cambridge United on New Year's Day, while Norwich made six alterations in total.

Priestley Farquharson returned from an eye issue and replaced Rico Browne in defence. Vincent Harper and Brandon Comley were restored in the absence of Jid Okeke and Ryan Finnigan, who were recalled at the start of the week.

Aaron Pressley made his first start in two months, as Jamille Matt started on the bench after he faced a late fitness test on a knee problem.

Norwich landed the first punch from the opening chance of the game when Jurasek scored on the quarter-hour mark. The hosts broke down the Walsall left when Jack Stacey nipped in behind Harper to deliver a low feed into the box.

It eventually fell invitingly for Czech Republic international Jurasek who powered an emphatic shot beyond the reach of Myles Roberts from the edge of the box.

After a tame opening 15 minutes, Norwich began to take control and Walsall were simply unable to cope with the onslaught.

Makama was an absolute menace and had two chances in quick succession to immediately double the Canaries' advantage.

Roberts closed down the angle to foil him at close quarters at the back post, before Makama headed the subsequent cross over after beating the Walsall goalkeeper in the air.

It would not be long until Makama did ripple the net, as Norwich smelled blood and went in for the kill with a second midway into the first half.

Aaron Pressley was one of four changes in the Walsall XI, but was subbed off at half-time.

Weir was caught dawdling on the ball just outside his own penalty area and was made to pay a costly price when Anis Ben Slimane pickpocketed him.

Ben Slimane immediately fed Jack Stacey, whose initial effort was blocked on the line by Aden Flint, before Makama converted on the rebound.

The chances kept coming for Norwich and Weir partially made amends for his error when he retreated to the goal-line to sweep Ben Slimane's low rebound off the line, after Roberts had thwarted Ben Chrisene's shot on the break.

Roberts produced a string of saves to prevent Norwich from inflicting further damage before the break. Makama won his race to the by-line with Farquharson and jinked inside to force a smart stop from the Watford loanee.

Mathias Kvistgaarden latched on to a through ball from Ben Slimane, but Roberts was once again alert to the danger, before the offside flag was raised.

Jurasek had another sight of goal when Roberts parried his effort at the near post and Makama cut inside to curl another shot wide of the cusp of half-time.

Sadler introduced Clarke and Albert Adomah at the break, but Norwich needed just three minutes to add their third in the second half.

Courtney Clarke scored the Saddlers' only goal with a stunner from distance.

Connor Barrett stood off Makama when a low cross was flicked into his path and the dangerous Norwich attacker finished low into the bottom corner.

Things went bad to worse when Makama completed his treble 10 minutes after the restart. Seconds after coming on, Browne was beaten for pace by Chrisene who squared for Makama to convert from close-range.

Makama was withdrawn after the Canaries' fourth but Norwich continued to push for more despite already putting the contest out of Walsall's reach.

Norwich skipper Pelle Mattsson tested Roberts from distance and substitute Jakov Medic planted a header inches wide from the resulting corner.

Substitute Clarke delivered the only moment of quality when he cut inside and unleashed a stunning curling shot from distance into the far top corner at the midway point of the second half.

New signing Alex Pattison made his debut from the bench but Norwich comfortably played out the remainder of the game without a spot of bother.

In fact, the Canaries even helped themselves to a fifth when substitute Springett broke in behind and converted calmly past Roberts.

Next, Walsall travel to Northampton Town in the EFL Trophy round of 16 on Wednesday, before an early kick-off at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
