Kamara was forced off after just eight minutes in north London after being hurt by a hefty challenge from Spurs midfielder Joao Palhinha.

The 26-year-old later left the stadium with his left leg strapped and will be given further checks on Sunday to determine the severity of the problem.

“Tomorrow we will check him. We will know something about his injury,” said Emery.

“Of course, we must be patient until tomorrow. Hopefully it's not a big injury, and something less than more.”

Villa recovered from the early loss of Kamara to go on and claim a 2-1 win thanks to first half goals from Emi Buendia and Morgan Rogers.

Wilson Odobert scored in the second half for Spurs but Villa held on to knock the London club out of the Cup for the second straight year, much to the delight of 9,000 travelling supporters.

Emery said: “The supporters today, they came here with us, 9,000 of them from Birmingham.

“They want to watch the team winning or playing to win. This responsibility we felt.

“ My responsibility as well, I talked about it in the press conference, I have a huge responsibility.

“How the players responded on the field, is the next step forward.

“To be a contender for this trophy is really difficult. Only one team is winning and every team in the Premier League normally fights for it.

“Tottenham were a contender. We could feel that we are a contender, but only if we progress like we did today.”
