Choosing who is going to run the team is the biggest decision a club can make.

Few other calls move the dial between success and failure quite so much. Get it right and you can find yourself on the path to glory. Get it wrong and you risk ending up on a journey to disaster.

By Albion’s standards, the imminent arrival of Eric Ramsay ranks among the most critical appointments of recent times, certainly the biggest since the Baggies turned to Carlos Corberan when they were languishing in the Championship’s relegation zone in October, 2022.

The immediate task facing Ramsay, as for Corberan back then, is to steer the club away from danger and back toward the calmer waters of mid-table.
