Unsung Aston Villa man underlines his importance again ahead of Tottenham FA Cup clash

The good news for Marco Bizot is for his next Villa appearance he will almost certainly get more notice.

Back-up goalkeeper Bizot once again came to the aid of Unai Emery’s team when Emi Martinez was forced off with a calf injury at half-time in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

It was the third time since joining from Brest last summer the Dutch keeper has been asked to jump in with just minutes to prepare, having previously replaced Martinez for wins at Feyenoord and Brighton after the club’s No.1 was injured in warm-ups.

Wednesday, admittedly, was the first time he had to step up midway through a match but the 34-year-old’s consistent performances have been among the less appreciated factors in Villa’s impressive season.

Bizot has already been involved in as many wins and clean sheets as his predecessor, Robin Olsen, managed in three-and-a-half years at the club.
