One man who West Brom will not be looking at to replace Ryan Mason after MLS appointment
Raphael Wicky was the man Andrew Nestor and Bilkul Football wanted as their first West Brom appointment.
He was very close to being named as the successor to Carlos Corberan 12 months ago - with the former Young Boys boss set to finalise terms on a move to Albion.
But issues over his coaching staff scuppered the move and it was called off - as Albion turned to Tony Mowbray.
Wicky had been in the conversation for the Middlesbrough job earlier this season - and there may have been a debate about Albion turning to him again following Ryan Mason's sacking.
But any thoughts of that would have ended on Monday - as Wicky returned to management in the US.
He was named as the manager of Sporting Kansas City - his second job in the MLS having previously taken charge of Chicago Fire.
“I am very proud to be the new head coach of Sporting Kansas City,” said Wicky, who played for Chivas USA in 2008.
“I am really excited to get started and get to know the team, the staff and the players. In my talks with David, we instantly had a good connection and felt very aligned in terms of culture and style of play."
