The Walsall captain was forced off with a knee problem in the 31st-minute of the Saddlers' 2-0 defeat at Cambridge United on New Year's Day.

Matt, who was making his eighth consecutive start in the league for Walsall, initially attempted to soldier on after picking up the knock early on.

The 36-year-old is still hopeful that he will be fit to face his former club Fleetwood, as Walsall look to respond to a run of back-to-back defeats.

"I've had a little bit of a tweak, it's just something I couldn't get going again with my knee," Matt revealed.

"I'm hoping it's nothing too bad, but I couldn't run as freely as I wanted to, which was frustrating because I was feeling good up until that point.
