Unai Emery hoping to avoid 2024 repeat as Aston Villa boss opens up on his dreams
Unai Emery says beating Arsenal on Tuesday night is the immediate extent of his dreams after explaining why it is far too soon to talk of Villa as title contenders.
Villa head to the Emirates Stadium targeting a win which would take them level with the Gunners at the top of the Premier League table and also set a new club record for consecutive wins.
Emery’s men have thrust their way into the title race after reeling off 11 straight victories in all competitions - including eight in the Premier League.
But the manager is determined to manage expectations, pointing out Villa were also in touch with the leaders two years ago, only to fall away and finish fourth.
Supporters left Saturday’s 2-1 win over Chelsea singing about winning the league and while Emery is happy for them to dream big, his own focus is much narrower.
He said: “Dreams are free. Everyone has to dream. I have my dream and I am here getting my dream.
“My huge dream here, or as a coach, is to win the Champions League. That is my dream, all my life.
