Unai Emery insists Villa head into Saturday’s match at Chelsea as underdogs despite their blistering form.

Villa will equal a club record if they record an 11th straight win in all competitions at Stamford Bridge. Victory would also move them 10 points clear of the hosts in the Premier League table.

But Emery, who has seen his team win 16 of their last 18 matches, believes the London club remain favourites.

“In the table now we have some advantage on them but they are contender more than us to be in the top-five, top-four, top-three,” he said.

“Now we are top three, with Arsenal and Manchester City who are performing fantastic, like we are. But they are contenders and we are not.

“Of course, we are ambitious and we are not going to refuse nothing about how we are in the table and how next week we can get the challenge against Chelsea.

“They are favourites but we are going to play with the form we have and hopefully we can perform the game, getting our objective.”

Saturday’s match is followed by a trip to leaders Arsenal on Tuesday. Villa sit just three points behind the Gunners but Emery thinks it is too early to think about a title challenge.

He said: “Until the day 34 I am not going to speak about our objective and target at the end of the season in the table. This is a run for each match.”
