Gavin Sloan and Lee Mallen, who both play for Kinver Constitutional Club, have been awarded a special trophy by the club president Ena Ray in recognition of their achievements.

A break of 147 is the maximum that can be achieved in the game and they are the first players to pull off such a feat in the 88-year history of the club.

This is in fact the second time Mallen has hit a 147-break, his latest in a league individual competition, and he becomes the first in the history of the Stourbridge and District Snooker League since it was founded in 1947.

The first 147-break by a professional was Joe Davis in 1955 and the first televised maximum was by Steve Davis in the Lada Classic in 1982.

"In snooker terms, this is pure gold. It is so hard to achieve and to have two members of the same club get maximums is unheard of," club treasurer Chris Randle said.

"We are so proud of them both and it proves what a high standard they are."
