Hotshots lead snooker league at the halfway stage - snooker round-up
The midway point of the Staffs & West Midlands Snooker League season has been reached and Division One sees Hotshots A lead the way by four points after a 4-1 win at Shifnal B.
Paul Deaville made a 44 break as he won alongside Callum Downing, Luke Higginbotham and Mark Ganderton as Hotshots led 4-0 but Ade Henry won the final frame for Shifnal to avert the whitewash.
The match of the day saw second-placed Wednesfield Cons host third-in-the-table Landywood. Andy Price put Wednesfield one up and it looked like going 2-0 as Joshua Walker made a 45 break in frame two, but Jack Harris fired in a 42 break for Landywood to make the match 1-1. Oliver Spooner made a 35 break to put Wednesfield 2-1 up and Ryan Hamilton defeated most wins man Robbie James to seal the match. Bill Stanton won the final frame for Landywood but Wednesfield won the match 3-2.
At the other end of the table, Pennfields remained in the bottom three despite a 5-0 victory at bottom side Stafford Institute B. Jason Hickman, Jim Woodhouse, Colin Reade, Jon Bate and Lee Holder secured the whitewash, with Reade making a 38 break.
Landywood C also remained in the bottom three despite defeating Sedgley Ex Service 4-1 in a good week for Division One's sides at the wrong end of the table as six of the bottom seven emerged victorious. Karl Payne and Peter Strazzanti put Landywood 2-0 up, Gurdip Sidhu pulled one back for Sedgley, but a 37 break from Paul Geary ensured that Landywood would come out on top. Kevin Richards put the icing on the cake in winning the final frame for Landywood.
Bailey Wright made a 45 break as he won his frame for Stafford Institute in a hard-fought encounter at Sedgley WMC, Matt Hyden also won for Stafford, but Andy Cambridge and Rhys Lampitt won for Sedgley to force a decider which Richard Davies won for Sedgley.
David Hall won the opening frame for Baggeridge, but that was their only success as Daniel Ward made a 43 break to level the match for Charlemont, who went on to win 4-1 thanks to Milan Krstanovic, John Spencer and Ricky Sadler.
Shifnal travelled to Hotshots B looking to consolidate their top-four position but fell to a 4-1 defeat despite starting well as Tom Maxfield won the opening frame. Hotshots B powered through to win the match through Dave Green, Neil Beckley, Hasib Hussain and Hasan Hussain, with Hasib Hussain making a 38 break.
