Mat Sadler has revealed that a number of his Walsall players had been struck with illness prior to their goalless draw against Notts County at Meadow Lane, which kept them top of League Two.

The experienced duo Aden Flint and Jamille Matt were among those under the weather, with the latter coming off at half-time.

Daniel Kanu came closest for Walsall with the only real chance for the visitors when his low shot was expertly saved by Notts County goalkeeper Kelle Roos.

Matt Dennis had the best opportunity of the game when Myles Roberts narrowed down the angle and produced a crucial save to preserve his clean sheet.

Although Sadler was disappointed by the energy levels of his team, he has praised them for the way they grafted to get a point.

"There wasn't many opportunities, but there were lots of balls coming into box, and we defended our penalty area very well," boss Sadler said.
