Last season the young Baggies reached the last eight where they lost out to beaten finalists Manchester City.

They came into the competition this week at the third round stage - with Bournemouth heading to The Hawthorns.

And it turned out to be a thriller - but at one stage it looked like it was going to be a landslide.

Albion found themselves 2-0 up inside 20 minutes - with Ryan Colesby opening the scoring on eight minutes having won possession and firing past keeper Zach Melin.

The lead was soon doubled by Adam Okorodudu - with Alfie Maughan finding the forward and he converted from eight yards out.

Then just before the break Harry French got in on the act as he raced through on goal to power home a strike from the edge of the box.

It got worse for the Cherries after the break, as Adam Letlat advanced forward and fired in a stunning strike off the post.

But just when it looked as though it would be a routine win for Albion - the visitors struck back.

Joe Spence's long range effort near the hour mark pulled one back - before substitute Eugene Nyarko nodded them right back into the game.

Then fellow substitute Leyland Waite got in on the act - as the Cherries threatened a remarkable comeback.

But it wasn't to be as Albion held to book their place in the fourth round.
