And this season it looks as though they have got the Johnston of old.

Arriving on a permanent deal last summer - Johnston had spells of form but failed to replicate the type of attacking displays that had seen him lauded by the Albion faithful at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The winger then knew he was going to have more responsibility on his shoulders this season - especially after the departure of flyer Tom Fellows who contributed with so many assists last season.

And Johnston has stepped up to the plate. He has arguably been Albion's most in form attacking player this season - although is in good company in recent weeks with the likes of Karlan Grant and Aune Heggebo hitting the goal trail.

But in terms of assists - Johnston's is performing at a top level at the moment.

And statistics show that he is only second in the whole division when it comes to assists.

Johnston currently has seven assists in 20 games - with only Hull City's Ryan Giles having recorded more assists this season with eight, although he has played a game more.

He has more assists than the top assister in the Premier League - while compared to League One and Two, he is level with Bolton's Amario Cozier-Duberry on seven, and only just behind Bromley's Mitch Pinnock and Crewe's Tommi O'Reilly.

Johnston has become Albion's creator-in-chief and while fans were looking at loanee Samuel Iling-Junior to replicate Fellows' ammunition, it has been Johnston who has stepped up to the mark.
