Match-winner salutes Aston Villa attitude after derby win over Wolves
Match-winner Boubacar Kamara saluted Villa for holding their nerve in Sunday’s derby win over Wolves.
The France international fired home the only goal of the match midway through the second half to earn Unai Emery’s team a seventh win in eight Premier League matches.
But they were made to work all the way by winless Wolves, with Kamara admitting the visitors were the better team in the first half.
Emi Martinez made several big saves to keep out the league’s bottom club before Kamara thumped home from 20 yards out.
Kamara said: "They (Wolves) played very well. We know before the game it'll be tough. They're fighting at the bottom and need points.
“In the first half, they were better than us but we kept calm. We are happy but now we need to rest and go again at Brighton on Wednesday.”
The 26-year-old’s goal was just his second in the Premier League since joining Villa in 2022.
He said: “I controlled it well and thought: ‘let’s try’.
"It's very fast so good control, I try to shoot and after I see the ball was good. I'm happy with the goal.
"If you're strong at home, you're happy to play at home. The atmosphere was really good. They pushed us hard."
Boss Emery praised Kamara for his goal and said he now wants to see the midfielder net more in the future.
He said: “He needs to add things, like for example today scoring a goal and an assist.
“Normally he is a player who when he is playing, is playing well.
“It is unusual to see him play a poor match. Sometimes it can happen but usually he is being consistent.
“His capacity to play well in the middle, with his confidence he is improving a lot.
“He is not usually scoring goals but he has to add them for us, whether it is shooting or heading. He shot fantastic today.
"We had to follow the gameplan and be resilient. We didn't dominate the match and in some moments we were struggling to create or dominate. We respect them (Wolves) a lot and know how difficult it is to get points.
"We were better at being resilient, consistent and demanding was better in the second half."
