Matt Maher: Wolves hoping history repeat but challenge at Villa Park is huge
Wolves supporters heading to Villa Park on Sunday are desperately hoping to see history repeating.
The last time their club started a season so badly as this, in 1983, they got their first win in a Midlands derby played away in late November, stunning rivals Albion with a 3-1 victory at The Hawthorns.
Yet if that result might have been a shock, a win over Villa this weekend would register several notches further up on the upset scale, such is the strength of Unai Emery’s team on their own turf.
The only visiting side to have left B6 with a win in the last 14 months are Crystal Palace. They did it twice, first in the Carabao Cup and then in the Premier League earlier this season but those two defeats are the only ones Villa have suffered at home in 36 matches in all competitions.
Quite simply, Villa Park is currently one of the toughest grounds in Europe to get a result.
