Wednesfield Cons go level with Hotshots at the top of the table - snooker round-up
Wednesfield Cons moved level on points with Hotshots at the top of the Staffs & West Midlands Snooker League after a 4-1 victory over strugglers Charlemont Bowling Club.
Daniel Ward secured the opening frame for Charlemont, but a superb 85 break in reply from Joshua Walker levelled the Division One match and further wins from Ryan Hamilton, Oliver Spooner and Dan Ward made it 4-1.
Hotshots remain top of the table after a hard-fought 3-2 win at Pennfields. Penn started well as Roman Hutchings made a 59 break to make it 1-0, but Faizan Mohammed made it 1-1 and a 77 break from Callum Downing put the league leaders 2-1 ahead. Jon Bate won the next frame to take the match to a deciding frame, but Paul Deaville proved too strong as Hotshots won the match.
A high-quality match at Sedgley Ex Service saw Landywood remain in third place after a 3-2 win. Simon Hickman made a 42 break to put Sedgley one up, and a 40 break in the next frame from Toby Smith could have made it 2-0 - but Bill Stanton had other ideas, making a 34 break to make it 1-1. Ash Barker made Division One's highest break of the week in the next frame as his 89 break made it 2-1 to Sedgley and although Gurdip Sidhu made a 30 break in the next frame, Robbie James won it to make it 2-2. Mick Stockley won the decider for Landywood.
Stafford Institute B remain bottom but enjoyed their first win of the season against fourth-placed Shifnal. Stuart Jones won the opening frame on the black for Stafford, but Gavin Flower made it 1-1 before Matthew Davies made a 36 break to put Shifnal 2-1 up. Dan Batkin forced a decider, which Darren Pountney won to kick off the celebrations for Stafford.
Poets Corner won 3-2 at Landywood C to move out of the relegation zone. The opening frames were shared as Pommy Kang won for Poets and Brad Cragg replied for Landywood, before Peter Strazzanti made a 34 break to put Landywood C 2-1 ahead. Raj Bashal won the next for Poets as the match headed to a decider, which Tony Walker won for Poets after making a 31 break.
Andy Cambridge made a 58 break as Sedgley WMC travelled to face Landywood B, however he proved to be the only winner as Landywood B won 4-1 thanks to Riley Parsons, Chris Jones, Bal Sembi and Adrian Rosa.
Robert Wharne moved one clear in the most wins race in division one, as he won the opening frame when Stafford Institute visited Shifnal B to make it 11 wins from 11 this season. Steve Powell levelled the match for Shifnal before Paul Harper made it 2-1 to the home side after making a 52 break. Chris Ward made it 2-2, but Shifnal B won the decider thanks to Ade Henry.
