Lye Town continue surge for play-offs as AFC Wolverhampton City also strike late - round-up

Lye Town continued their winning form to close in on a Midland Premier play-off place with victory from behind at Romulus.

Matt Saunders was the Lye hero with the winner five minutes from time to ensure a fourth straight league win and an unbeaten run of seven.

Half-time had brought a stalemate at Coles Lane in Sutton Coldfield but it was mid-table hosts Romulus who struck first through Logan Trainer just after the break.

Richard Ball's side struck back admirably as Elliott Ball kept his calm from the penalty spot to draw the visitors level before the hour.

There was little between the sides but Saunders came up trumps with the comeback winner in the closing stages to lift his side to eighth, five points off the play-offs.

AFC Wolverhampton City surged up to third and above play-off rivals Coton Green with a hard-fought 2-1 home win and late winner despite a man disadvantage for large parts.

Striker Jay Holdcroft was the match-winner with his side's second four minutes from time as he finished after good work from Kie Houlihan in the Castlecroft fog.

The scoreline was level at 1-1 at the break after the hosts' Luqman Wirba's early opener was cancelled out by James Henry.

City then lost Jake Lloyd to a cynical shirt pull immediately after the break. The clash was made even after the visitors' Luke Fox was dismissed for two yellow cards with 13 minutes left - and Coton paid the price with Holdcroft's winner.

Brocton's home clash with 1874 Northwich was postponed.

Sodden conditions did for much of the non-league schedule with Division One clashes involving Smethwick Rangers, Cradley and Wednesfield rained off.

Gornal were also stood down and that allowed Sutton United into top spot with a win elsewhere.

Play-off chasing Bilston Town were glad for the green light as they hammered lowly Kirby Muxloe on the road.

Bilston fired out the blocks with two goals in the first 14 minutes and made it three on the stroke of half-time.

The Leicester hosts pulled one back but Bilston weathered the storm and fired in more late goals.

Eccleshall pulled to within three points of North West Counties First Division South leaders Runcorn with an impressive 3-0 win at play-off chasing Barnton.

Much of the damage was done inside six minutes for the visitors as Nicky Parker opened the scoring in barely 60 seconds and veteran frontman Danny Glover made it two on five minutes.

Former Hednesford favourite Glover netted his ninth goal in six games in the second period to seal the win as Eccleshall went 11 unbeaten.

At the other end of the table there was more misery for basement boys Wolverhampton Sporting who are 12 points from safety after a 3-1 home defeat to Market Drayton Town.

Bewdley Town surged to the summit of Helenic Division One with a 3-1 derby win at Ludlow Town. Alex Clarke, Will Dearlove and Elliott Lees netted.
