The Yeltz moved back within striking distance of the Southern League Central’s top-five with a 2-0 victory, courtesy of goals from Milan Butterfield and Jason Cowley.

Butterfield broke Alvechurch’s stubborn resistance when he broke the deadlock with a close-range header in the 83rd minute, with Cowley making the points safe in stoppage time.

Penn paid tribute to those players who came off the bench in the second half.

He said: “You watch it at the top level, they (the substitutes) are changing games and we have game-changers on our bench.

“Credit to the XI who started. They ground it out. We peppered them the last 20 minutes and fortunately the goals came.

“We have to be relentless now. We are in that part of the season where games come thick and fast and you can move up the table so quickly. We have to take advantage of these games coming up.”

The Yeltz can now give full focus to Saturday’s No.9 derby at Stourbridge, where they will face a Glassboys team which sits eight points from safety after Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat at Worcester City.

Zidan Sutherland and Jenson Sumnall were on the mark for the visitors but it was all in vain as their tough campaign continued.

Hednesford Town moved to within a point of Northern Premier League leaders Warrington Rylands after a 3-0 home win over Bamber Bridge.

Ollie Harrison, Dan Turner and Ahkeem Rose were on the mark in front of more than 1,200 fans at Keys Park.
