The signing comes off the back of the Saddlers' win over Newport at the weekend, which keeps them top of League Two.

In the club's statement announcing McGregor's arrival, they said he will 'provide strategic direction, oversight and play a role in the club’s recruitment strategy, scouting network and identification of emerging talent from academy to the men’s first team.

McGregor arrives with experience in football having most recently been lead scout at Swansea City and also working for a number of clubs including Norwich City, Preston North End, Plymouth Argyle and Rangers.

The new addition is now looking forward to his new challenge at the 'ambitious' Saddlers.

“I’m excited to get going,” he said.

“It’s a great set up here at the club and I’ve known about it for a while now and the people within the club so I’m excited to get started.

“There’s been some really good conversations with Ben and Mat (Sadler) and from the off you can tell that this is an ambitious club – we want to move forward and progress and that matches my ambitions so the decision to come here was a no brainer.

“The key thing for me is collaboration, working together and having a clear strategy – that’s something that’s been with me in my previous roles and if everyone is all pulling in the same direction it makes the whole process seamless.

“I’ll be working closely with Mat, Ben, Matt Jordan and the club as a whole to get the best results for the club. We’ll be looking at all eventualities and covering all bases and I’m just really excited to get stuck in now.”

Walsall next face Colchester at home on Saturday afternoon.
