Walsall appoint former Wolves boss as new interim assistant
Former Wolves manager Terry Connor has been appointed as interim assistant at Walsall.
Connor joins the Saddlers backroom staff on a temporary deal, after Chris Powell departed Bescot only 14 days into his short-lived stint for Luton Town on October 13.
62-year-old Connor spent just under four years as understudy to Mick McCarthy at Wolves between 2008 and 2012.
He succeeded McCarthy as manager in February 2012, but was unable to save Wolves from relegation, as they finished rock bottom in the Premier League.
Connor steps in for Gary Waddock, who will be absent from Saddlers’ coaching staff for a “number of months” to undergo ankle surgery.
Manager Mat Sadler recently said that Waddock is targeting a return to the dugout before the end of the season.
Since leaving Wolves, Connor has had further spells under McCarthy with Ipswich Town, Republic of Ireland, APOEL, Cardiff City and Blackpool respectively.
He also had a stint as manager of the Grenada National Team, and most recently worked as assistant manager at Dagenham & Redbridge and Solihull Moors. Connor worked under former Saddlers boss Matt Taylor with the latter.
A striker in his playing days, Connor featured for the likes of Leeds United, Brighton, Portsmouth and Swansea City.
"TC's great", Sadler said.
"He's kind of been working less formally for the last two weeks. But he had something, family-wise, that he had to navigate through until we could formally make this partnership.
"I've known him for a little bit now, see how he works. He's a man of high standards, drives standards.
"A very unassuming person who makes complete sense as to why he's had a career in the game for as long as he has.
"You expect that before you know him, but then when you know him, you understand why. He's a top person, he exudes respect and he has a lot of respect.
"I'm looking forward to learning from him."
